Project Description:
NEXTDC’s S3 is a state-of-the-art hyperscale data center located on Sydney’s lower north shore. Interconnected with the existing S1 and S2 facilities and the national digital infrastructure network, S3 covers over 26,000m² across nine levels, featuring data halls and ancillary infrastructure that provide more than 20,000m² of critical IT space. To enhance reliability and efficiency, the facility incorporates advanced features such as hot aisle containment and Vertiv in-direct free cooling CRAC units, supported by modular cooling tower infrastructure. The N+1 independent cooling systems achieve an excellent Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), while fully modular cooling and N+2 CRAC units in each data hall ensure redundancy. A 24-hour water storage system guarantees continuous cooling.
Specific items within the scope of this project were:
- Finalisation of design, supply, delivery, construction, commissioning, testing, and warranty of all components of the critical cooling system, air conditioning, and ventilation system.
- Finalisation of design, supply, delivery, construction, commissioning, testing, and warranty of all components of the critical parts of the Building Management System (BMS) installation
Project Accolade:
- Integrated advanced cooling modules sourced internationally, overcoming challenges with foreign language wiring diagrams through exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Expanded capabilities in the data centre market, providing valuable insights to guide future business strategies.
- Adhered to stringent sustainability and environmental criteria as part of a Multiplex tier 1 Green Star building.
- Installed advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) for real-time energy monitoring and optimisation, enhancing energy efficiency.
