St Vincent’s Cator Building – New Teaching Facilities

Project Description

One of St Vincent’s existing three story buildings was transformed into the new teaching facility for the hospital. Kerfoot completed the design, supply and installation of all electrical, lighting, communications, security, CCTV, fire services and a new state of the arc audio visual system.

Once complete the new facilities included a hospital simulation lab with cameras, recording equipment and simulation dummies for the training and teaching of new nurses. The building also includes a library, offices, training rooms, a large auditorium, bathroom and shower facilities.

All existing services in the building where to be upgraded but as this was a stage 3 project this meant no interruptions to their services where to take place in working or training hours.

Kerfoot successfully upgraded the existing main switch board and power distribution system, communications back bone & IT links, the somplete fire smoke & EWIS system and the CCTV & access control system eith no interruptions to the client.

Project Accolade

This project was a huge success and further cememented out relationship with an existing client showing that the project team was not only capable of completely a complex project but also completeing the design and coordination of all electrical services for such a critical building in the hospitals campus

St Vincent’s Private Hospital – Mental Health Unit

Project Description

St Vincent’s Private Hospital, part of St Vincent’s and Mater Health on Sydney’s Darlinghurst campus, was seeking to develop a world class private mental health treatment facility.

The facility is located on levels 6 and 7 of the O’Brien Centre at the north end of the Darlinghurst campus. The recently completed O’Brien centre accommodates all of St Vincent’s drug and alcohol services.

The project involved the relocation of the existing 24 hour call centre to another level and the creation of private hospital rooms with twenty new beds.

Project Accolade

One of the largest challenges facing Kerfoot and their client was the relocation of the whole call centre from its original location on level 7 to the new environment on level 6.

This call centre was manned 24 hours a day and needed to be kept fully operational and on line during the entire construction period which was a great feat.

The successful delivery of this project to two of Kerfoot’s major clients demonstrated that Kerfoot has the expertise and skills within its team to ensure its future in the electrical industry and also expand its services when our clients require us to, enabling them to grow in today’s commercial enviroment.

Westmead Hospital Short Stay Unit

Project Description

The emergency short stay unit is the first clinical space to be refurbished under the Westmead Redevelopment project.

Kerfoot project managed the complete design and construct of all electrical services including:

  • New distribution boards
  • Lighting security services
  • General & critical power
  • Medical panels
  • Data & fibre optic
  • Nurse call
  • And all bio medical services

The refurbished unit has two additional beds, two extra chairs and provides a freshly renovated space for patients needing clinical observation and treatment up to 24 hours after admission to the emergency department.

Project Accolades

As the new extension was still a part of the existing hospital it was imperative that all critical services to the existing hospital Emergency Department and surrounding facilities be maintained throughout the 4 month construction programme.

The Emergency Department at Westmead is the busiest part of the hospital so great care had to be taken while isolating and shutting down critical services.

The Kerfoot project team worked closely with the hospital to make sure the project finished on time and without any disruptions or down time.
